Not sure but I've had lots of Sushi and Kyo is too notch so it shouldn't matter what ethnicity the chefs are.
No. It's a high scale restaurant.
Only if you are seated at the bar. The rest of the restaurant is for all ages
Raw , whitout freezing !
Oh yeah
Good service , good ambiance , but the food is a little disappointing. Was expecting real Japanese experience and food.We basically had a « white version » of Japanese food. nevertheless, staff is very friendly and the place is very clean.
Jess was amazing !! Excellent waiter , extremely polite and great smile.
Excellent sushi + friendly staff = a great meal. I had a sushi combo along with some sake and was very impressed with everything. Not the cheapest place for sushi but definitely worth the premium!
If you are in the mood to try a new sushi place this is the place! Food and drinks are amazing. Some might say its on the expensive side but in my opinion its worth it. Makes for a nice date night restaurant. Waiters and waitresses are super friendly and they arent always in your face which is a big thumbs up.
I went there during the happening gourmand and did not regret it at all! The beef sashimi was delicious, the chicken wings to die for and the makis were really good! The service was a five star! Would definitely recommend! Good ambiance and delicious plates!
Good location, great environment, great service. About the food: the Hitachi was amazing, the shrimps were on point and the cold plates were great. I think I was a little let down by the sushies but that is about it. For desert we had the donuts and they were unforgettable. Also, the two cocktails I had were incredible.
So happy to have spontaneously ended up in Kyo while wandering through Montreal. The food is absolutely delicious (we LOVED the Kimono roll), and the service is amazing (shout-out to our awesome waiter Jess!)Highly recommend!
Wow.. What a good place with amazing staff and the food was awesome. On top of it this is a view that we see outside.
Very good food and even better service. The waiter did a great job suggesting some very nice dishes. I will certainly be back in the future!
The decor, service and drinks are great, but I'm always a bit disappointed with the food. I find it particularly salty (perhaps it's a personal preference) and unimpressive, for this price range. I came back a few times because of the convenient location, but it's definitely not in my top 10.
This place is amazing. Some of the best food I've ever eaten. I ordered the tasting menu and every single dish was delicious. I cannot reccomend this restaurant enough!
Great service from the moment we called to book a reservation all through the service everything was perfect. Staff was polite, inviting and took the time to go through the menu. Once we were done, they did not rush us with the bill. Kept bringing us water even after having paid our bill (very rare in restaurants nowadays). The place itself was cozy (lighting is just right, not too dark that you can't see around but not too bright as to create an ambiance of intimacy). Great place to bring a date or a group of friends.Overall a great experience. Keep it up guys, you have a great team!!!
Jess who was serving us was amazing server we’ve ever seen!!! He was very friendly and through:) we had such an amazing dinner experience there! Food and drinks are also very good! I would definitely go back!
I was pleasantly surprised to find such an amazing Japanese restaurant in Montreal! The food was delicious, made fresh, with attention to detail and well balanced flavors/texture. The ambiance was upscale but relaxed. Our waiter Jess was attentive, considerate, and friendly. He made great suggestions and seemed very knowledgeable in regards to the food and drink menus. Making a stop at Kyo is definitely a must when in Montreal!
Jess was amazing! Great service and amazing food 🤤
I love sushi and this is the first izakaya style spot I took my fiance and he loved it. Dined there twice while visiting. Suggest sharing 4 or 5 items so you can try a bit of everything. Desserts were surprisingly large portions.
The sushi was dry! There was no flavor to it. It was a bit disappointing. We paid over 200$ we expected the food to be good but it felt like a sushi from all you can eat sushi. The jumbo shrimps were good, avoid their sushi plates. Not worth it at all
INCREDIBLE sashimi and sushi. dessert was also unmatched. Favorite restaurant from last year.
Nice ambiance and just a block away from the Notre-Dame Basilica. I had the miso soup, rainbow sushi rolls, and the pork kakuni. The miso soup was good, but the sushi had that strong fishy flavour that I don't usually get in other Japanese restaurants. Pork kakuni was too salty.
Excellent service and top quality food! Server's alcohol suggestions were perfect!
Great night out with friends! Nice ambiance and decorum, the food is very flavorful and if you have the chance to get Esmettin as your waiter, the night will be even better. Make sure to ask for cold milk, he'll get it. Best regards y'all!!!
Great atmosphere for when you want to have a raucous night with close friends. The food is good, the cheering is loud, and energy is infectious!
Good Japanese food and nice waiters. The service could be better though. They lack in care for some small but important details. For example, they forgot to bring us spoons and, after we found out the soup bowl was leaking, they didn't think it would be nice to clean the table for us.
Was looking for a sushi spot, came across this location. Probably some of the best sushi I’ve had. The prices were pretty reasonable as well!
Steps from Notre Dame, this resto was a great find on a damp Montreal winter night. Everything on the menu was perfect, including the extensive sake offerings.
Excellent service, heavenly food. Make sure to try their exquisite donuts (cinnamon, condensed milk, Japanese lemon, and raspberry purée).
We had an excellent experience at this spot. We enjoyed the great environment and the meals. The staff members are super affable. I’m glad we finally managed to try this place.
Phil was our waiter and was really sweet. He was very considerate, nice, and a jokester too. The food was great, the experience was great. We were a little surprised by the sharing style of food so be prepared to spend a little extra, but nothing was outrageous. Great place would go again.
Pros: Phenomenal service, fair priced non sushi part of menu, had Canada dry ginger ale (the superior ginger ale not that nasty Schweppes sheit), and last but not least the seaweed salad was the biggest culinary taste sensation I've had in years also the miso soup was delicious Cons: very overpriced basic sushi. The sushi and only the sushi was priced this way and felt like a huge waste of money compared to similar quality restaurants. Most places would serve 8 pieces for under 12 not 17 dollars.I would return for the seaweed salad alone.
Very high quality food and amazing service. Not cheap, but we'll worth it. Everything we had was totally amazing. The fried chicken was the bomb!
I will highly recommend the restaurant. I’ve been there 3 times. The food is tasty, the service is good and the staff is accommodating. You can order several things without ending up with a big bill. There are also a variety of dishes to choose from. The place is just lovely.
We sat at the bar. Drinks are reasonably priced and delicious. Sushi was buttery textured to perfection. Our bartender was impressive, helpful and polite. 10/10 would recommend
Excellent Japanese food. They offer many choices in sashimis and nigiris, and a variety of dishes. The bibimbop is out of this world, as well as the shrimps. And the karage chicken is on a whole other level. The ambiance is great, despite being a lively (read: loud), you can easily carry on a conversation at the table. The service was also excellent. I definitely recommend coming here if you are in Old Montreal.
Absolutely delicious food. Amazing decor with an excellent location close to the basilica. Very friendly waiting staff and management. Lunch specials are a great deal.
The staff were extremely helpful and courteous. The food was incredible. I've eaten at many Japanese restaurants outside Japan and this is one of the best. Prices were reasonable as well. If you don't know what an Izakaya is, then ask Google.
HAPPENING GOURMAND until Feb 9. My first time at Kyo Bar. Menu at 35$ is exquisite: I especially loved the Takoyaki - The taste is growing in your mouth bite after bite. I also loved the Nagoya Chicken wings marinated in mirin and black pepper. A wing that taste chicken and not only BBQ sauce ! at last ! someone is doing the right thing.
Stopped in for a quick beer and an appetizer, so didn't experience the full menu, but what I had was good. Nice vibe, helpful and friendly staff.
Fishes were super fresh! Melts in my mouth! Sweet shrimps were perfect too! :)
Great food, nice atmosphere and great waiters!! You can choose many dishes from Japanese kitchen and I recommend this restaurant for family evening.
What an absolute incredible experience. Firstly, kudos to our server Bryan, exceptional service from his recommendations on sake to just making sure our first time at Kyo was memorable.Best sushi I’ve ever had, the vibe is great, inviting and warm. The nigiri melts in your mouth, wasabi had a perfect kick and the ginger was nice and fresh.Recommended 100% will definitely return next time we’re in Montreal.
Food and atmosphere were amazing. Wish the portions were a bit bigger. But the good was quality. So I'll give it a pass.
This place had been a favorite in the past but my drink was literally like Kool Aid tonight and cost $13!!!!! It's hit and miss with their cocktails. Always has been, but I thought it was something they would have fixed by now. If I'm paying $13 for a drink is it too much to hope it will taste as good as the last time for the same price??!!By the way, upon being told that we were very unhappy with our drinks the staff did absolutely nothing!!
Was here over the weekend for a friends bachelor party. Everything was phenomenal. The service was outstanding, our waitress took great care of us as did the manager on duty who bought our table a round of shots. Our whole table did the tasting menu and every portion of it was well crafted and very tasty. The highlight was definitely the miso cod, one of the best cuts of fish I have ever eaten. I will most definitely come back next time I'm in Montreal.
A friend and I were in the area and googled for something close so we decided to hit up this place on a lark. My evening there was just lovely! Stylish, not snobby. The food was extremely well prepared and bursting with flavor. Def will return sometime.
My brother in law, sister, girlfriend and myself all came to Kyo last Friday. We had no expectations going in, but left totally full and super pleased. Our host Jess was super attentive to us, and he even picked up on our food preferences after the first round. The extra attention felt super nice!
Really nice food and terrific service! Our waiter was so on top of our every need and wish and was wonderfully helpful with what to recommend. We were served an array of vegetables and seafood in small, shareable quantities for the table. Highly recommend this place for both service and tasty food.
I would highly recommend Kyo and especially the service from Bryan. My fiancé and I came in and had an amazing meal but even better service. There was literally a celebrity at the table next to us and Bryan still made us feel like the most important people in the Restaurant. Do yourself and favor and check it out!
This place is good! Right up the road from the Notre Dame Cathedral, they serve delicious Japanese small plates. The service is good at the bar, just not very warm. The food is absolutely delicious!
It was my first time in Montreal and at Kyo. My server was Jess, very attentive to detailed, and welcoming. He was very knowledgeable about what food and drinks to suggest. I now know a bit better about the process of making sake thanks to him. he suggested a great sample of them. My soup was delayed in the kitchen, and he removed it from the bill. The quality of food is good, and the ambiance was ideal, but the service was the catch for me to come back.
I like their salads. Ingredients are fresh portions are just okay. Taste is alright. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Kind of expensive for what it is. It is practically in the old port though so yeah. Nice decor.
